On “Moments From The Movies” harpist Fiona Clifton-Welker plays her own arrangements of 14 pieces from well known films. As well as favourites like ”Lara” s Theme” from Dr Zhivago and ” Summertime” from Porgy and Bess we get a Disne medley and songs by Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Henry Mancini and others.
Miss Clifton-Welker proves to be not only an exceptionally gifted exponent of her instrument but also an arranger of some flair. For some of the pieces she sticks fairly faithfully to the original arrangements (insofar as she can do so for solo harp); in others she lets her imagination run riot to produce quite unique interpretations of the music. All the tracks, however, benefit from her delicate touch and the result is over an hour of beautifu1, restful music guaranteed to take your mind off the pressures of the day. This is the sort of CD to play in a darkened room or alongside a riverbank. I have played it over and over again since I acquired it.
